Most paintings are done on canvas, and when it comes to framing, you’ll have a couple of things to consider.

Firstly a canvas is often transported in a roll so the first thing that will have to happen is that the canvas will have to be opened out and fixed on a stretcher. This is like a wooden sub frame, made to order, and then the canvas is expertly stretched, evenly over the sides of the stretcher frame.

Next, we would recommend a tray frame in which the stretched canvas sits and is secured inside. at this point, you can select on the aesthetic of the surrounding ‘tray’ of the frame.

The surround can be made of wood, metal, or perspex, and we at Pendragon Frames offer a variety of finishes; even a special colour to match your artpiece.

Here we have some examples of tray frames made for large canvases showing how the colour can achieve a different look. We are here to help you make  decisions and advise on what will work best for your painting.
